Why ABBA CARES Exists
The name "ABBA CARES" reflects the intimate, fatherly love of God — the kind of love that doesn't shrink back from difficult questions or uncomfortable realities, but instead leans in with patience, wisdom, and unwavering care.
This vision was born from the understanding that the developmental continuum of human growth is a treasure chest — a sacred process of discovery that deserves to be honored, not shut down out of fear or discomfort.
Grounded in Piaget's developmental theory and rooted in theological conviction, ABBA CARES creates a framework where children and youth can explore, question, and grow within a community that walks beside them with grace.

Rev. Walter L. Smith III (WS-3)
Walter L. Smith III is a seasoned, passionate, and highly esteemed bi-vocational minister, business consultant, and human service professional with national and international consulting experience spanning more than twenty-five years.
His service has included public, private, nonprofit, and church/para-church organizations. His commitment to supporting the LGBTQIA+ and Christian communities began after a special invitation from a relative who shared his desire to build community bridges, conduct targeted discipleship, and advocate on behalf of the most vulnerable in Louisville, Kentucky.
His vision for ABBA CARES — a Clinical, Theological, and Therapeutic Model for Healthy Development, Experiential Learning, and Transformational Change — is the culmination of decades of ministry, scholarship, and deep pastoral care.
